Florence Virginia Slavin's Obituary
SLAVIN, Florence Virginia "Cookie" -age 91 of Nashville passed away on Friday, September 2, 2011. She served during WWII in the Women's Army Auxiliary Corps, eventually making her way to the European Theater. She is a Past Commander of the American Legion Post 5 where she continued to serve her country for 52 years. She began her distinguished career with the Tennessee State government in 1946 as a Senior Stenographer for the Department of Military, and concluded her exemplary service in 1990 as Executive Assistant to the State Treasurer. Her career spanned six governors, as she worked closely with such luminaries as the Honorable Thomas A. Wiseman, then State Treasurer and now a retired Federal Judge, and the Honorable Harlan Matthews, first Commissioner of Finance and Administration, then State Treasurer and now a former U.S. Senator. She is survived by her daughter, Elizabeth Diuguid Pritchett; grandchildren, Shannon Elizabeth Pritchett and Ashley Beth Pritchett Hulan; great grandchildren, Elizabeth Destiny White, Brandon Thomas Hulan, and Brittney Paige Hulan; nephews, William Wayne (Beverly) McCord and Atticus S. (Jenny) McCord; family friends, Steve Zelle, Dottie S. Carter, and Harriett Howard; and special pets, B.J. and Dolly. Members of the American Legion Post 5 will serve as active pallbearers. Members of the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary Unit 0005 and the Veterans' Coordinating Council Nashville-Davidson County will serve as honorary pallbearers.
