Frank David Byer's Obituary
Frank David Byer "Doc Holliday"Age 83 of Goodlettsville, TN passed away July 10, 2012. Preceded in death by parents, Hugo Allin and Lorita Byer, step son, Allan L. Hooper and aunt, Estelle Marie Meyer. Survived by wife, Joy H. Byer, daughter, Suzanne (Steve) Braden, sons, Matt and Mark (Lori) and step sons, John (Teresa) Hooper and Michael (Diane) Hooper, sister, Jerry (Albert Sr.) Kennedy and beloved grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Doc was in the Marine Corps in WWII with service in China and the South Pacific. He was a policeman in San Antonio, TX while continuing his education at Trinity University. He then went to Refugio, TX to become the youngest Chief of Police in Texas. He had a successful catering business for 30 years and several restaurants in Nashville. Doc appeared weekly on WTVF Channel 5’s “Talk of the Town” at that time the highest rated locally produced magazine show in the nation. Before entering the food service business Doc’s background was in the music industry as a broadcaster, record company executive, talent agent, show promoter and master of ceremonies. He was a top rated disk jockey in TN and TX and was National Program Director for Connie B. Gay Communications. He was on the Board of Directors and Treasurer of R.O.P.E. (Reunion of Professional Entertainers), a non-profit organization dedicated to the construction of a retirement home for entertainers. He helped fund the health, death and welfare program for members. Memorial service to be held Thursday, July 19, at 3:30 PM at Grace Baptist Church 1510 Old Hickory Blvd, Nashville, TN 37072. Pastor Ken Coleman officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made o Alive Hospice.
