Mrs. Freda W. White's Obituary
Freda Marie Williams White, 89, of Hendersonville, Tennessee, peacefully passed away on Wednesday, March 18, 2020, at Gallatin Center for Healthcare and Healing. Freda was born June 1, 1930, in Mt. Pleasant, Tennessee, to the late Benjamin Williams and Kate Love Boshears Williams.
Freda was the youngest girl of 9 children born to the Williams, and she loved telling funny stories of her childhood adventures in the woods around Arrow Lake in Maury County. She moved to Nashville after studying at the Columbia Business School and worked for the State of Tennessee.
Freda and her late husband, Charles, were very involved in their children’s lives. She served as a patrol mother at Dan Mills Elementary in Inglewood for many years, and was a well-known member of the community. The Whites could often be seen running the concession stands at ball games and cooking at the carnivals. She was known by her grandchildren and great grandchildren as ‘MawMaw’, but she was also known by many as ‘GrannyBunz’ for the delicious bread and cinnamon rolls she made and sold in her home. Freda worked in the insurance industry for many years, retiring from Cigna in 1987. She was a long time member of Inglewood Baptist Church, where she also worked in the day care center after corporate retirement. Freda and her husband moved to Hendersonville in 1990, where they were active members at First Baptist Church of Hendersonville. She worked in the Mother’s Day Out program there for 18 years, and it was one of the joys of her life.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Avril White; son, Steve (Stevie) White; and grandson, Charles A. White II.
She is survived by her son, Gary (Kathy) White; daughter, Jan (Virgil) Allison; grandchildren Alan White, Amelia (Matthew) White Hamblin, and Cori Allison Johnston; great grandchildren, Madysen, Lyla, and Chevy White; Sole’ Diane White, RaeLynn, Teagan, and baby brother “on the way” Hamblin; Judson, Iris Kate, and Charlotte Hope Johnston; brother, Franklin (Jean) Williams; sister-in-law, Faye White; and devoted sister-in-law and best friend, Elizabeth “Booba” Cooper; daughter-in-law, BuLai White; grandson-in-love, Justin Johnston; and a host of precious nieces, nephews and friends.
Freda gave us instructions about certain things she wanted done or said at her funeral, and the family does not want to deny her wishes. If you knew her, you know she loved a gathering that included food and fun. Due to the current limitations on travel and large gatherings, Freda’s Celebration of Life Service will be planned for the near future. We want to celebrate her at a time when we can be together with laughter and hugs!
The immediate family will gather on March 24, 2020, for a private burial in Historic Spring Hill Cemetery. The family would appreciate your prayers at this time.
Arrangements entrusted to Spring Hill Funeral Home & Cemetery, 5110 Gallatin Road, Nashville, TN, 37216.
