Gary Gray Adkison's Obituary
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Mr. Gary Gray Adkison on June 12th, 2023, in Nashville, Tennessee.
Gary was born on May 15th, 1942, at the family home in Nashville to Leslie Adkison and Maude Gregory Adkison. He was a graduate of Hume-Fogg High School, class of 1961. He met the love of his life, Linda, and they were married on July 20th, 1962. He had a natural knack for storytelling, a skill which he honed and passed down to his five children. He was fond of poetry, and often had a riddle or a cowboy tale to tell while in good company. He was an avid football player, a gifted guitarist, knowledgeable, well-rounded, brilliant, humorous, and the “Master of the Remote,” as lovingly mentioned by his family. He was the epitome of resilience, having survived numerous traumatic accidents yet still being able to pick himself back up and smile throughout it all. If only to add onto his brilliance, he discovered a newfound love for historical documentaries later in his life. His playful spirit, sarcasm, kindness, and love will live on in his family, and his presence will be missed beyond words.
Gary is preceded in death by his parents Leslie and Maude; sister Norma (Walter) Barker; brother Audie Adkison; grandchild Alex Adkison; and brother-in-law Don Puryear. He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years Linda Faye Adkison; daughters Tina (Bart) Cates and Debbie (Jerry) Smithson; sons Ken (Lisa) Adkison, Don (Laura) Adkison, and Brian (Christina) Adkison; sisters Wanda Puryear and Kaye (Randy) Frye; sister-in-law Agnes Adkison; grandchildren Brandon, Brandon, Shawn, Isaiah, Joshua, Krystle, Cassy, Sarah, Samantha, Clint, Caleb, Julianna, AnnaSophia, Gary, Taylor, and Lindsay; several great-grandchildren; and a host of extended family and dear friends.
The family cordially invites friends and relatives to gather for a time of visitation on Friday, June 16th, 2023 from four o’clock in the evening until eight o’clock in the evening, and on Saturday, June 17th, 2023, from nine o’clock in the morning until ten o’clock in the morning, with a chapel funeral service to follow at ten o’clock in the morning, and burial to conclude at Spring Hill Funeral Home and Cemetery, 5110 Gallatin Road, Nashville, TN 37216.
