Mr. Gene Cardwell Ligon's Obituary
Mr. Gene Cardwell Ligon, age 90 of Nashville, Tennessee passed away on Saturday May 27, 2023. The son of the late Ross Hudson Ligon and Ruth Virginia Cardwell Ligon, Gene was born in Wilson County, Tennessee on January 2, 1933. Gene was raised in Lebanon and graduated from Lebanon High school. Afterward, he proudly served his country in the United States Navy from 1951 to 1955, during the Korean War. During his time in the Navy, Gene earned the Korean Service Medal, The National Defense Service Medal, and The United Nations Service Medal. After his Honorable Discharge from the Navy, he was employed by Southern Bell, also known as South Central Bell, from 1955 until his retirement in 1987. He was a Life Member of the Telephone Pioneers, a past President of the Goodlettsville Civitan Club, a Life Member of the VFW, and a Member of Connell United Methodist Church and its Builders Class.
Gene is survived by his loving wife Nancy Ellen Ligon, sons Gary Wayne (Sharon) of Lebanon, Randy Evans (Megan) of Murfreesboro, Jerry Eugene (Julie) of Nashville, James Kenneth (Deana) of Franklin, Kentucky, stepsons Mark Alan Johnson (paula) of Franklin, Barry Scott Johnson (Carolyn) of Hendersonville, six grandchildren, and was preceded in death by one grandchild, seven great-grandchildren, four step-grandchildren, and two step-great-grandchildren.
Honorary pallbearers will be The Golf Group: Jesse Cater, Dave Weatherman, Gene Chrisman, Robert Reaves, and Members of the Builders Sunday School Class at Connell Methodist Church.
The family of Gene Ligon invites friends and relatives to join them in a time of visitation and remembrance on Thursday, June 1, 2023 at Spring Hill Funeral Home from 10am-12pm, with a Celebration of Life Funeral Service beginning at 12pm in the Spring Hill Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in Historic Spring Hill Cemetery.
