Mr. George Arthur Pouder's Obituary
George Arthur Pouder, age 71, of Nashville passed into the arms of Jesus on April 25, 2015. George was born in Nashville, Tennessee on July 21, 1943 to the late Harry and Emma Pouder and raised by Emma and step-father, Fritz Gasser. He was a loving son, husband, father, grandfather, brother, and uncle.
His family recalls that George was a caring father and wonderful provider. His work ethic and sense of responsibility was unmatched, and his family came first. “He always made sure that we went on wonderful vacations,” says his daughter, Tina. The family went to Niagara Falls and Disney World, and many other places. “And we always had a nice, new station wagon to travel in,” remembers Tina. He adored his daughters, and they learned so much from him. Thanks to him, George’s two princesses can snake a toilet, work with electrical wires, repair a garbage disposal, and possess a whole host of other practical skills. George always told his girls how proud he was of them. When the grandchildren started coming, George took right to the role of proud grandfather and showered them with love…and everyone agrees that he gave the best hugs.
George took great pride in how he looked as well. He always made sure that his hair was in place and that he looked handsome. When they first met, one of the first things that young Gloria noticed about George was how handsome and nicely-groomed he was. She was eighteen when she met George, and the two were married just a year later. They were married for nearly fifty years.
George had a wonderful sense of humor and was always ready with a joke. He was also keen on documenting everything. The family called him “Mr. Kodak” for all of the pictures he took and videos he recorded. He was a great navigator, too. “Better than Garmin,” remembers son-in-law, Michael. “If you were lost, you could call him and he would know where you needed to go.” The family credits his years as a postal employee for George’s great sense of direction. He worked for the postal service for 25 years.
In addition to his parents and step-father, George was preceded in death by his brothers, Nick Ballis and Bill Pouder. He is survived by his loving wife, Gloria Pouder; daughters, Dana De Peña (Ruben) and Tina Laird (Michael); sisters, Martha Mathis (John), Joan McKenzie, Marie Laster (James), and Patricia Proctor (Jimmy); grandchildren, Darren De Peña, Alex De Peña, Benjamin George De Peña, Sophia Laird, and Madeline Laird; as well as many, many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews, all of whom he loved dearly.
George’s family will receive friends and visitors on Tuesday, April 28, 2015 from 4:00pm until 8:00pm at Spring Hill Funeral Home. Additional visitation will be Wednesday, April 29, 2015 from 9:30am until 11:00am. Lloyd Johnson officiating. Interment will follow at Middle Tennessee Veterans Cemetery in Pegram.
