Mrs. Gwen Jones Stidham's Obituary
Gwen Jones Stidham died at home November 16, 2023. Born November 9, 1927, to Roy L. Jones and Willie Hardcastle Jones in Goodlettsville, Tennessee, attending local schools and graduated from Issac Litton High School in 1945. After attending David Lipscomb College, she married Houston Smith Stidham on April 4, 1950.
In 1951, she gave birth to a daughter, Lisa Kathryn who predeceased her. Following their move to Hendersonville in 1956, Charles Patrick Stidham was born in 1958 and William H. Stidham was born in 1968.
Gwen was well known as a loving and devoted daughter, wife, mother and a nurturing friend to many, as well as a hard-working philanthropist. She was deeply involved in the creation of Nashville Memorial Hospital, Goodpasture Christian School, a trustee of Volunteer State Community College and a board member of the Association for the Preservation of Tennessee Antiquities (APTA). Her Christmas party for the benefit of Cragfont was legendary and one of the highlights of her life.
Gwen was caring and fiercely protective of those she loved, taking many people under her wing through the years.
Gwen was predeceased by her parents, R.L. and Willie Jones, brother R.L Jones Jr, husband Houston Stidham, daughter Lisa Kathryn Stidham and adopted brother, Thomas Gregory. She is survived by her two sons, Charles Patrick Stidham and William Houston Stidham and their “adopted brother” Gordon Adamski, all of Hendersonville, Tennessee.
One thing her family is so proud of and would like to share with the world in order to provide hope and inspiration to others, Gwen was a breast cancer survivor, 55 years cancer free! Proof that it can be done!
Services will be Saturday, November 25 at Spring Hill Funeral Home, 5110 Gallatin Road, Nashville, Tennessee 37216. Visitation 10am till 12pm. Service at noon, conducted by William Giesel, burial to follow at Spring Hill Cemetery.
Active pallbearers will be Loy Hardcastle, Mark Brandon, Kendall Mullinex, Todd Watts, Carter Wiseman, and Vic Huntsman.
Honorary pallbearers Mike Terry, Mike Westbrook, Kenneth Jones, and Leone Bell.
The family asks for donations to be made to the American Cancer Society, the Belmont Mansion Association, and the Vol State Community College Fund volstate.edu/foundation/giving
