Mr. Harold "Gene" Lawson's Obituary
Mr. Harold Eugene “Gene” Lawson, age 59 of Westmoreland, Tennessee passed away on Sunday, March 8, 2020. He was born in Chattanooga, Tennessee on December 11, 1960 to Ressie Johns and the late Harold K. Lawson. In addition to his father, Gene was preceded in death by his grandchildren Liam and Fiona Lawson. He is survived by his wife of 40 years Brenda Lawson, his partner of 10 years Pam Carpenter, his mother Ressie Knutty (Donald), his son Harold N. Lawson and daughter Courtney Lawson. He also fathered two other sons Michael Goins and Travis Goins (deceased). He is also survived by his sisters Elaine Hendrix (Tommy), Annette Peña (Art), his brother Kenneth Lawson (Shannon), and his grandchildren RyLee Paradise, Dylan and Leo Cohen, Cheyenne Lawson, Grace Dalton, and Taylor, Jenna, and Jaxon Goins, as well as a host of nieces and nephews. Although not related by blood, Gene's extended family includes Cody Smith and Andrew and Alex Adwell.
Gene was an outgoing, loving, and generous person. He joked and carried on a lot (“Hey man, your car’s rolling”). He loved everyone, and everyone who met him loved him in return. He never met a stranger, and he would give anyone the shirt off his back. He enjoyed working on cars and going to car shows. Although Gene’s formal education was limited, he was very smart and extremely talented. His skills with paint and body work were nothing short of amazing. He could take a wrecked and mangled car and make it look showroom new. After losing their home to a fire in 1991, Gene built a new home from scratch and did all the work himself, including wiring, plumbing and all the other facets involved. He was in the process of building a “barndominium” when his health began to deteriorate. He loved to fish, especially deep sea fishing. He will be missed by all that knew him.
In lieu of flowers, the Lawson family has requested that donations toward Mr. Lawson’s funeral expenses be made to the funeral home.
A Visitation will be held at Spring Hill Funeral Home on Monday March 23, 2020 from 12-2pm with a Celebration of Life Funeral Service beginning at 2pm in the Spring Hill Funeral Home Chapel. Spring Hill Funeral Home has been entrusted with the final care of Mr. Lawson. 5110 Gallatin Road, Nashville, Tennessee 37216. (615) 865-1101. “Where Nashville Comes to Remember.”
