Harrell Victor Ellis' Obituary
ELLIS, H. Victor, age 89 of Nashville, passed away on Sunday, January 27, 2013. He is preceded in death by his parents, Sam PolK and Metta Mae (Garrett) Ellis, brother Sam Polk Ellis, Jr., sister Mary Virginia Ellis Winn and his son, H. Victor Ellis, Jr. He is survived by his granddaughters, Kayla Ellis and Breeanna Ellis; grandson, Dillon Ellis; great grandson Niquo Johnson, Jr.; sisters Betty Hunt and Martha Baker. Victor attended Goodlettsville High School and graduated from Issac Litton High School in 1942. Following graduation he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. He served during WWII in the Pacific Theater including the Solomon Islands, Guam and Iwo Jima. After the war he went to work for the Dupont Co. until his retirement in 1981. He was significant in the Davidson County Labor Movement including the merger of the AFL/CIO which led to his being elected to the State Legislature where he served as State Representative for 19 years, with five Governors and three Speakers of the House of Representatives. He was a member of the Jere Baxter Edgefield Masonic Lodge #254 for over 50 years. He also served as City Manager for the “City of Lakewood” in Old hickory for over 10 years. In addition he was a Life Member as well as Past Commander of the American Legion Post #105. His family will receive friends from 4 – 8 p.m. on Wednesday, January 30. A Masonic Service will be conducted at 7 p.m. that Evening. A Celebration of Life Service will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Thursday, January 31 from the Chapel of Spring Hill Funeral Home. Honorary pallbearers will include James Durham, Tom Lanfair, Henderson Smiley, Frank Curtis, Congressman Jim Cooper, Juvenile Court Clerk David Smith, Eddie Bryan, Louis Oliver, III and Dr. Sam Winn.
