Harriet Pace Comperry's Obituary
COMPERRY, Harriet Pace Age 97 of Hermitage, Tennessee, died August 20, 2010, following a brief illness. She was born April 17, 1913, in Montgomery County, Tennessee, the daughter of William Tyson and Verdie Holt Pace. She was educated in Montgomery County Public Schools and graduated from Clarksville High School. She married William David Comperry on December 25, 1935. She shared in her husband’s ministry as a Methodist pastor, supporting him in pastorates throughout the Tennessee Conference of the United Methodist Church and during his service as a Chaplain in World War II and the Korean War. Since her husband’s retirement, she has been a member of Inglewood United Methodist Church. They had three children, Billy Wayne Comperry, Janet Elaine Comperry, and David Paul Comperry, and shared 72 years of marriage. She was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. William David Comperry; parents, William Tyson and Verdie Holt Pace; two brothers, James Guilford (Ben) Pace and Elmer Winston (Tub) Pace; and two children, Billy Wayne Comperry and Janet Elaine Comperry. She is survived by a son, the Rev. Dr. David Comperry and his wife Nancy of Memphis, TN; sister, Lucille Pace Stanley of Clarksville, TN; sisters-in-law, Christine Winters Pace and Geneva Shelton Comperry, both of Clarksville, TN; daughter-in-law, Madge Yoke and husband Bob of Goodlettsville, TN; grandchildren, Janet Comperry McReynolds and husband Scott of Krypton, KY, Major (Ret.) Clark Comperry and wife Stefanie of Dayton, OH, Cindy Comperry of Nashville, TN, and Betsy Comperry Little and husband Brad of Jackson, TN; great-grandchildren, Jonathan, Jessica, and Justin Comperry, Mary Margaret and William McReynolds, and Rowan Little; and numerous nieces, a nephew, and their children. Visitation with the family will be from 4-6PM on Sunday, August 22, 2010 at Spring Hill Funeral Home, 5110 Gallatin Rd. at Briley Pky., Nashville. Interment will follow on Monday at 11AM at Spring Hill Cemetery. A memorial service will be held at 1PM on Monday at Inglewood United Methodist Church, 3511 Gallatin Rd., Nashville. The services will be led by the Rev. L.C. Troutt, the Rev. Dr. Carmen Lile-Henley, and the Rev. Cherie Parker. Honorary pallbearers will be clergy members and spouses of the Tennessee and Memphis Annual Conferences of the United Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the W.D. and Harriet Comperry Scholarship at Martin Methodist College, 433 W.
