Harry F. Nahay's Obituary
Harry Francis Nahay, Jr., 76, of Nashville, Tennessee, passed away peacefully at his home on Thursday, November 10, 2022. Born August 4, 1946, in Nashville, he was the son of the late Harry F. Nahay, Sr., and Mildred Parrish Nahay.
Always an avid reader and enthusiastic learner, Harry graduated from Peabody College and later earned his master’s degree in English from Middle Tennessee State University.
His professional life took him from the classroom to the boardroom to cities around the globe. Following college graduation, Harry taught at Litton High School in Nashville. He then moved onto a career in sales, first with Nashville-based companies including Standard Candy Company (maker of the Goo Goo Cluster) and Martha White, then to Chicago, Illinois, where he was a senior sales executive with Storck Candy Company, a position that sent him across the country and abroad.
Always the best dressed in any room, Harry loved travel, theater, art, interior design, and good food and drink – whether at the finest restaurants of Paris and New York or in the kitchens of friends and family. He was also a lover of words and stories, consuming novels and nonfiction, reading aloud for hours to his grandchildren, working challenging crossword puzzles, and enjoying films and TV.
Above all, Harry loved his family and his friends. He did so with great generosity, offering his time, support, an open mind, and listening ear. He walked with others through difficult times, just as he laughed and celebrated with them during the many good times. He never met a stranger or hesitated to send a bottle of champagne to newlyweds he’d never met dining in the same restaurant (true story).
He was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his children Tricia (Derreck) Bentley and Matt (Suzanne) Nahay; his partner Ronald Baldwin and Ronald’s children Emily (Andy), Ronnie (Sharon), Laura (Matt), Bethany (Dow), and Andrew (Marisol); and his beloved grandchildren Abby, Emma, Beckett, Ian, Owen, and Penelope.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, November 16 at Spring Hill Funeral Home from 1 to 2 pm. A Celebration of Life Memorial Service with Pastor Stan Mitchell officiating will follow at 2 pm.
