Hazel Marie Pirtle's Obituary
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Ms. Hazel Marie (Summers) Pirtle, 93, on Sunday, February 19th, 2023, in Hendersonville.
Hazel was born on December 13th, 1929 in Woodbury, Tennessee to William F. Summers and Vernie A. Farless Summers. She and her family relocated to Nashville when she was a child. She was an alumnus of East High School. She worked for Metro Schools for 35 years as a manager of cafeterias and volunteered for 22 years at Nashville Memorial Hospital and Skyline Medical Center Gift Shop.
She met the love of her life, Sam, and they were married on April 5th, 1947. Sam and Hazel began their family soon after, and her children, Gayle and Tony, were the sunshine of her life. Her family was her purpose and her passion, and her home was the ultimate place to gather and fellowship. Among her many talents, she was a skilled seamstress, an excellent chef, and detailed gardener. When not creating delicious meals after a long day at work or tending to her immaculate garden, she loved to travel East to the Smoky Mountains, her home away from home. She enjoyed the peace of the tall trees and the family time spent in Gatlinburg. Her grace, her charm, her sweetness, and her servant’s heart are among the immeasurable qualities that she will be remembered for. She exemplified what a wonderful mother and grandmother should be. She was the epitome of love, and her beautiful spirit will be deeply missed.
In addition to her parents, Hazel is preceded in death by her husband of 41 years Sam, daughter Patricia Gayle Elliott, and granddaughters Angela Hudgens and Latitia Herrera. She is survived by her son William A. Pirtle; two grandchildren Andrea D. Warren (Cory), Erin A. Napier (Jeremy); great-grandchildren Peyton, Selena, Cristian, Colton, Carrington, Charleston, Trey and Sam, and is expecting another grandchild in March!
The family will receive guests for visitation at Spring Hill Funeral Home on Thursday, February 23rd, 2023 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM and on Friday, February 24th, 2023 from 10:00 PM to 12:00 PM. A funeral service will take place on Friday, February 24th, 2023 at Spring Hill Funeral Home at 12:00 PM, with burial to follow at Historic Spring Hill Cemetery.
