Helen Francis Huey's Obituary
Helen Francis Forrester Huey, age 95 of Nashville passed away Sunday, May 27, 2012 in Nashville. She was born December 21, 1916 in Union City, TN to Walter and Eunice Jackson Forrester. Helen was a 50+ year member of Eastwood Christian Church. She served as one of the first women Deacons and played the piano for Service Bible Class for 37 years. She stayed as actively involved as possible, but her declining health kept her from helping in her beloved church during the last years of her life. Helen was also a big sports fan, especially following the Tennessee Lady Vols basketball team. She even received a 95th birthday card from Coach Pat Summitt. She loved golf and had a hole-in-one at the Hood River Oregon Golf Course and won the club championship at The Dalles Oregon. Essentially a homemaker, she adored taking care of her family. She also worked for several years in food service at Rosebank Elementary and Stratford High School in the cafeteria. She was preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Eunice Jackson Forrester; her husband of 67 years, Joe R. Huey; her son, Howard Michael Huey; three sisters, Martha Logan, Elizabeth Pennington and Mary Fischbuch and three brothers, Howard Forrester, Joe Forrester and Robert Forrester. She is survived by her daughter, Melinda Huey Dement of Mexico Beach, FL; son and daughter-in-law, Larry and Carolyn Huey of Aiken SC; two granddaughters, Jennifer Stalvey of San Francisco, CA and Shannon Huey of N. Augusta, SC; grandson, Travis Huey and wife Beth of Sanford, NC; great- granddaughter Cayley Smith; three sisters-in-law, Norene Forrester, Anna Forrester and Verselle Forrester; several loved nieces and nephews and many good friends such as Christine Wasson and Paul Rhoten. She also leaves behind her devoted caretakers, Pamela Slaughter and Lolitha Grier. A celebration of Helen’s life will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Friday, June 1, 2012 from the Chapel of Spring Hill Funeral Home with Rev. Jay Hartley officiating. Interment will follow in Spring Hill Cemetery. The family will receive guests from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service on Friday at Spring Hill Funeral Home.
