Mr. Herbert Washington Taylor Jr.'s Obituary
NASHVILLE – Herbert Washington Taylor, Jr., age 92, passed away peacefully on October 18, 2017.
He was born on November 4, 1924 on his families’ farm on Marrowbone Creek in Cheatham County. He served with the 163rd Combat Engineers during World War II, landing on Utah Beach during the D-Day invasion and crossing France, Germany and finally Austria, primarily with General George Patton’s Third Army. He loved cars and worked for Ford Motor Company at the Nashville Glass Plant for 35 years until his retirement at age 67. He believed in hard work, enjoyed life, and remained active until only a few weeks before his death.
He is survived by his two children, Kathy (David) Key and Steven (Pam) Taylor; his two granddaughters, Liza (Andy) Strelka and Callie Key; and two great-granddaughters, Magnolia and Frances Strelka. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lois Mayo Taylor; his brother Charles L. Taylor; and his parents, H. W. Taylor, Sr. and Lula Morris Taylor Binkley.
Visitation will be Saturday, October 21 from 11:00 am – 1:00 pm at Spring Hill Funeral Home in Madison, TN. A graveside service will follow at Spring Hill Cemetery.
The family would like to thank the staff at Vantage Pointe Village and Alive Hospice for their kind and compassionate support at the end of his life. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Alive Hospice or the Nashville Humane Society.
