Mr. J.D. Elliott's Obituary
J.D. Elliott, age 78 of Madison, went to his eternal heavenly Home on July 22, 2015. He was born on October 24, 1936 to the late Carroll and Louise Elliott. He was a loving husband to Anita, and an extraordinary father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend to many.
J.D. loved God, and his life was a testimony to God’s love and presence. He studied the Bible intently and sought God’s guidance in everything. He raised his children in a loving Christian home and encouraged them to love and seek God. He was a peacemaker, had a grateful and generous spirit, and strived to create harmony wherever he went.
J.D. loved his wife and family. He and Anita were married 51 years and shared a wonderful life. They enjoyed antiquing, gardening, Vanderbilt sports, and much much more. Despite a busy schedule, he always put his family first. He worked to be present for family events, whether it be piano recitals, sports games, award ceremonies, graduations, etc. He enjoyed family vacations, shopping with his grandchildren, and holidays, particularly Christmas. Having grown up on a farm, J.D. was an excellent gardener and enjoyed his time outdoors working in the yard.
J.D. loved his friends and they loved him. He was a loyal, dependable, and forthright. He was known for his hospitality and welcoming spirit. He loved hosting parties, playing cards, New Year’s Day, coordinating trips, and pulling pranks. He was fun to be with, and his joy was contagious.
J.D. was a servant leader: humble, kind, giving, and a true gentleman. He had infinite wisdom, and his advice and counsel was sought by so many. He had a quiet but strong presence, and was respected by all who knew him.
He served as President of Nashville Memorial Hospital for 27 years, and was the current President of The Memorial Foundation. He served on many community boards and was a teacher and Elder at the Madison Church of Christ. His impact on the community is far reaching, and his loss will be deeply felt.
In addition to his parents, J.D. was preceded in death by his brothers, Ray Elliott and Hayden Elliott.
He is survived by his wife, Anita Elliott; children, Michelle Arriola (John), Juanita Stewart (Jeff), and David Elliott (Debi); sister, Virginia Ann Eley (Donnie); grandchildren, Jessica, Katie, Jorma, Adriann, Emily, and Reed; and great-grandchildren, Janie Kathryn, Jack, and Leo; as well as many, many friends, all of whom he loved dearly.
