Jack M Van Hooser's Obituary
Jack M. Van Hooser age 92 of Nashville, Tennessee passed away February 27, 2025. Jack was preceded in death by parents, Charles B. and Ruth Van Hooser Moser; brothers, Charles B. Van Hooser, Billy S. Van Hooser and John H. Taylor. He is survived by loving wife of 70 years, Wanda B. Van Hooser; two sons, Jack (Tracy) Van Hooser and David (Joan) Van Hooser; granddaughters, Brandi (Christopher) Burrow, Susannah (Duncan) Littlefield, Julia and Caroline; great-granddaughters, Lilly and Laynie Burrow, Phoebe and Harper Littlefield and nieces and nephews.
Jack was a graduate of Columbia Central High School, and he earned an undergraduate degree from Tennessee Tech University in Cookeville, TN and a graduate degree from the University of Tennessee in Knoxville, TN. He was an outstanding student and athlete in high school and college. He was President of the student body in high school his senior year and was inducted into the Sports Hall of Fame at Columbia Central and at Tennessee Tech. Tennessee Tech awarded him the Flavious Smith Distinguished Alumnus Award for achievement in his employment career and contributions to society. He wrote and published two inspirational autobiographies, "A Journey to Remember" and "Unstable Times Unlikely Outcomes" and wrote a third book of value lesson short stories entitled "Stories Embedded in My Mind".
He served two years of active duty in the US Army and three years in the Tennessee National Guard. Member of the Dalewood Methodist Church, Nashville, TN for forty-two years and upon his death was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene in Nashville and the Ambassador Sunday School Class. Following a brief high school teaching and coaching career he worked for thirty-six years in the Tennessee Division of Vocational Rehabilitation beginning as a Counselor and retiring in 1998 as the agency's Assistant Commissioner.
His love of sports and concern for the total development of young men resulted in his serving for thirty years as a volunteer coach of baseball and softball teams in Nashville. Jack was devoted to his family and friends and was strong in his faith.
Funeral service will be held at Spring Hill Funeral Home, 5110 Gallatin Pike, Nashville, TN 37216 at 12:00pm with Bobby Strickland officiating. Visitation will be held from 10am until time of service.
In all respect to Jack's many friends, the graveside service will be private for family only, conducted by Bobby Strickland.
