Mrs. Jackie Irene Wilson's Obituary
Jackie Irene Wilson, native of Crossville, TN., was born December 2, 1917, and passed into the glory of God on October 17, 2018. She was six weeks shy of her 101st birthday.
Irene grew up with her beloved Mom, Dad and six brothers on the Cumberland Plateau; she attended Pleasant Hill Academy. Over the next several decades Irene held many different jobs; everything from a riveter during World War II, to a twenty-year career with South Central Bell, to owning an upscale restaurant, to assistant-managing an apartment complex in Green Hills. However, she would tell you that her favorite jobs were being a wife and being a mother.
Irene was a devout Christian, a devoted wife, a beloved mother and grandmother and a faithful friend to many. Filled with grace and patience, she was innately kind, warm and caring.
Irene was preceded in death by her parents, Jess and Callie (Dodd) Blaylock; six brothers Major, Carl, Earl, Buddy, Clyde and Lonnie, two husbands, Jesse M. Wilson, Sr. and Buford M. Shoemake. Irene is survived by her children, Jesse M. Wilson, Jr. (Hazel Lauer), Jackie Glenda Wilson, Carolyn E. Cantrell and Cliff Wilson (Greg Owens), her step-son, Frankie Shoemake, and by her three “adopted” children, Janice Oakes and Janyce and Joel Cutler. She is also survived by three grandchildren,Kelly Fink, Julie Wilson and Marti Cantrell; several great and great-great grandchildren. In addition, she is survived by her sisters-in-law, Nell and Jane, by her brother-in-law, James and by many dear nieces and nephews, and by her cherished friends from church and the various neighborhoods in which she lived.
Finally, a special thanks to Irene’s physicians…they have cared for her for decades and have become “family”; Dr. Doug Holliday (Debbie), Dr. Lester Porter and Dr. Walter Clair.
Serving as pallbearers are: Buddy Blaylock, Mike Corley, Dr. Doug Holliday, Paul Mikusa, Mason Phillips, Don Williams and Danny Blaylock.
