Mr. James Brooks' Obituary
James William Brooks, age 90 of Nashville, passed away on February 28, 2015. James was born in Carthage, Tennessee to the late Tommy and Ruby Brooks. He was a loving son, husband, father, and grandfather.
Perhaps the one quality that permeated every aspect of James was the quiet sweetness that he exuded. He was always concerned for everyone and put his family’s needs above his own. He was appreciative and thoughtful. “I’ve been so blessed. For 61 years, he was a bright light in my life,” says his wife, Elaine. “Now he’s a bright light in Heaven.” James was always smiling and eager to talk to anyone. “He never met a stranger,” recalls his son, Jamie. Even as a supervisor, James was loved by his employees.
Faith was very important to James. Even in his last moments, he quietly called his family to prayer. His family, God, and his church were the cornerstones of his life.
James was known for answering the question, “How are you” with a long, drawn-out “Awwwwwwful goooooooood.” It was a trademark phrase for him and one that many people knew.
James proudly served in the U.S. Air Force during WWII and was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross during his service years.
James is survived by his wife of 61 years, Elaine Brooks; son, James “Jamie” Brooks, Jr. (Carol); grandson, Will Brooks; sister, Julia “Judy” Carolyn McConnell; niece, Amy Elaine Flatt; and nephew Joseph Stephen McConnell (Michele.)
