James was baptized at North Side Seventh Day Adventist church and attended grade school at Miami Union Academy. He then attended Miami Northwestern Senior High and completed his High School education at Job Corp. He then decided to better his life by escaping his surroundings and joining the United States Navy. While stationed in Subic Bay Philippines he met his soulmate Julieta Alapan Crockett. During his tenure he completed his college degree and rose through the ranks as a Master Chief Petty Officer. He honorably retired military service after 30 years with countless awards and decorations such as Sailor of the Year and Recruiter
of the Year, just to name a few.
James had a magnetic personality and an unforgettable smile. He was called to be a mentor and leader to countless men and women around the world. He did everything from marriage counseling to military recruitment. One of the most special things about James is that he hung
out with everyone from the homeless to the highest ranking commanders in the military. Your social status never stood in the way of how he treated you. He found great purpose in his position at Hermitage Hall as training coordinator of “Handle with Care” and CPR, housed many foster children, mentored many youth and assisted countless servicemen into the United States military, amongst countless other callings. James loved recreational sports to include football, basketball, and racquetball: even won tournaments well into his 50s. James enjoyed great
eating with extra mayo on every sandwich, tons of laughter, and was always true to himself. What you see is what you get. He took pride in being a loving husband, father, grandfather, family member, shipmate and friend. He was also a member of Prince Hall Free and Accepted
Masons.
James spent a lot of time on a variety of Naval ships as a Signalmen. During this time, James’ loved ones find comfort in the fact that he can now sail freely into the arms of his heavenly father.
James Crockett was a handsome, strong willed, well spoken warrior who was affectionately known and will truly be missed.
