James Edward Duke Sr.'s Obituary
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Mr. James Edward Duke, Sr. on August 10th, 2023, in Nashville, Tennessee at the age of 92 after a short stay at Alive Hospice.
James was born on February 5th, 1931, in Nashville to Jesse A. Duke, Sr. and Florence Elizabeth Cuzzort Duke. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, son, and friend. He worked diligently for Lion Oil Company as a construction foreman for 28 years, and he retired as a maintenance supervisor for the Metro Nashville Board of Education. His presence will be deeply missed.
James is preceded in death by his parents Jesse and Florence, his beloved wife of 63 years Eva P. Duke, and sons James E. Duke, Jr. (Jimmy) and Gary Lynn Duke, Sr. He is survived by his children Lydia Diana Williams, Donald W. Duke (Lynne), and Larry Mark Duke (Brandie), along with numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
James will be laid to rest at Historic Spring Hill Cemetery in Nashville on Wednesday, August 16th, 2023, at 11:00 am.
Arrangements for Mr. Duke, Sr. are entrusted to Spring Hill Funeral Home and Cemetery, "Where Nashville Comes to Remember."
