Mr. James E. Hart Sr.'s Obituary
James E. Hart, Sr.
Greenbrier, TN – Born in Charleston, WV on November 7, 1930 and passed away at the age of 87 after a short illness at Skyline Medical Center on February 2, 2018.
Growing up, he attended area schools in WV, and then joined the U.S. Army in September 1949, serving in the Korean War. He shipped back to Ft. Campbell, KY where he met and married the love of his life, Bettye Oakes.
He received a degree in Air Condition and Refrigeration at Western Trade School and also completed a 2 year course in electrical work.
After the family moved to Goodlettsville, he was employed by B.F. Meyers, Capital Radio & T.V. and Famous State Sales. He was also employed by Davidson County Metro Codes for 5 years before retiring from the TVA in Hartsville.
He was a lifetime member DAV Chapter 3, American Legion member Post 88, and a member of Goodlettsville Lodge 271 for 50 years.
In his spare time, he loved fishing, bowling, golfing, and spending time with his family. He loved the Lord and was a wonderful husband and father, and was a kind and honest man who always helped those in need.
He is preceded in death by his daughter, Merra Hart Stracener; and his parents of West Virginia.
He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Bettye Oakes Hart; daughter, Lorrie Ann Martin; son, James E. (Deana) Hart, Jr.; grandchildren, Brian Martin, Stephen Stracener, Crystal (Jeremiah) Apple, and Lindsey Hart; great-grandchildren, Jonah Martin, Julian Martin, Jordan Martin, Alexa Riley, and Jeremiah Apple, Jr.; great-nephew, Mike (Lori) Oakes of Yortown, VA, Caleb Oakes; great-nieces, Kelly (Vince) Bonani of Austin, TX, Stephanie Oakes of Rochester, NY; and Nancy Oakes Hicks.
Visitation will be on Monday evening, February 5th, from 4-8 p.m. with a Masonic service held at 7 p.m., then again one hour prior to the service on Tuesday.
A Celebration of Life service will be held on Tuesday, February 6, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. at Spring Hill Funeral Home with Dr. Harry Yates officiating.
Interment with military honors immediately following at Spring Hill Cemetery.
Memorial Contributions may be directed to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
