James "Gabby" Hayes' Obituary
James “Gabby” Hayes, 86, of Goodlettsville, Tennessee, passed away on Wednesday, July 31, 2024. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Rita Lee Hayes, a son, Lee Allen Hayes, parents, Anna and Allen Hayes and six siblings, Jack Hayes, Ann Craddock, Ruth “Darlene” Goddard, Elizabeth “Bootsie” Dedmond, Frances Harris and Mary Jean Duncan. Mr. Hayes is survived by his wife, Linda Beach Hayes, daughter, Lorre Hayes, daughter-in-law, Amy Hayes, four grandchildren, Blake Hayes (Mady), Nick Hayes (Olivia), Rita Ellis (Cage), and Anna Killingsworth, and a great-granddaughter, Mila Lee Hayes, numerous nieces, nephews, extended relatives and friends.
Mr. Hayes dedicated his life to helping others and serving his community as a Nashville Firefighter. His commitment to protecting the community was unwavering and he retired with honor, leaving behind a legacy of bravery and sacrifice.
Beyond his firefighting career, Mr. Hayes was equally passionate about sports. As a coach, he inspired countless young athletes to reach their full potential. His love for sports extended beyond coaching. He was an avid fan, cheering on local teams with unmatched enthusiasm.
Mr. Hayes’s kindness knew no bounds. He was a true gentleman, always quick with a smile and a helping hand. However, his family was at the center of his heart along with his beloved dogs. His family time was spent making memories and keeping everyone in stiches with his humor.
As we bid Mr. Hayes farewell, let us remember him not with tears, but with laughter. He leaves behind a legacy of kindness, sportsmanship and love, a legacy that will continue to inspire everyone.
The family cordially invites relatives and friends to visit on Thursday, August 8, 2024, from eleven o’clock in the morning until two thirty in the afternoon at Spring Hill Funeral Home and Cemetery, 5110 Gallatin Road in Nashville. There will be a graveside service at two forty-five in the afternoon at the Historic Spring Hill Cemetery.
In lieu of customary remembrances, the family asks that donations be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or Boys Town.
