James "Jim" Patrick Callahan's Obituary
James “Jim” Patrick Callahan, 87, of Madison, Tennessee, passed away peacefully on November 7, 2025.
Born in St. Louis, Missouri, to Melville and Loretta Callahan, Jim graduated from Ritenour High School and began his career with the Burlington Quincy Railroad. It was in St. Louis that he met and married the love of his life, Martha. His career later took them to Kansas City, New Jersey, and finally Nashville, where Jim retired from Gaylord Opryland as a Transportation Supervisor.
Jim’s life was filled with 87 years of family, love, and laughter. He was the best storyteller—able to turn any moment into a tale worth hearing—and was rarely without a gentle tune, his own little melody that seemed to brighten every room. He found joy in traveling, sitting on the front porch of the family cabin in Southeast Missouri, 4-wheeling in the country, and drinking wine by the fire. His laughter, warmth, and easy humor made everyone feel at home. Though he is no longer with us, his melody and bear hugs will linger on—echoing in the hearts of all who loved him.
A Loyal Legion season ticket holder for the Nashville Predators and a lifelong St. Louis Cardinals fan, Jim loved nothing more than cheering on his teams with family and friends.
Jim is survived by his devoted wife of 63 years, Martha, and their three daughters, Michele (Larry), Loretta (Kerry), and Christine (Donald). He was the proud “Papa” to six grandchildren—Holly (Billy), Heather (Adam), Monica (AJ), Caitlin (Chris), Brittany (Dylan), and Nathaniel—and nine great-grandchildren: Evelyn, Ella, Sadie, Jack, Avery, Oliver, Vivian, Rhett, and Lorelai, along with many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Melville and Loretta, sister Camile, and brother Gary.
A private Celebration of Life will be held at a later date, and he will be laid to rest at Buffington Cemetery in Southeast Missouri.
