James Robert Link's Obituary
James Robert Link passed away peacefully on October 5, 2024, at the age of 86. Born on February 22, 1938 to Cloyd and Gladys Link (née Lamberth), in White House, TN, James lived a life full of love, family, and passion for the things he cherished most.
James married his devoted wife, Gloria Link (née Clay), on October 17, 1959. Together, they raised their beloved son, James (Rondda) Robert Link II. He was a proud grandfather to three grandchildren: Kristah (Shaun) Ward, James (Morgan) Link III, and William Link. He delighted in being known as "Papaw" to his grandchildren, including his precious great-granddaughter, Marlow Link.
James proudly served his country in the U.S. Army Reserves from 1960 to 1966. Following his service, he built a 40-year career with Genesco in Nashville, TN.
James pursued his passions and built a life centered on family and the things he loved most. He was a dedicated member of Bethel Baptist Church, where he found community and shared his faith. A lifelong lover of golf, James won multiple amateur championships and found great joy on the course. His devotion to Alabama Football was unmatched—rarely seen in anything other than crimson, he lived and breathed for his team, often exclaiming "Roll Tide!" with pride. James had a deep love for dogs and welcomed many into his life over the years, finding joy and companionship in their presence. He was also passionate about old cars, appreciating their history and craftsmanship.
James will be remembered for his deep love for his family, his quick wit, and his wisdom, which he readily shared with those around him. He is survived by his wife, children, grandchildren, great-grandchild, and extended family and friends, who will carry forward his legacy of love, strength, and warmth. His presence will be deeply missed by all who knew him, especially by those who called him "Papaw."
Visitation will be held at Spring Hill Funeral Home on October 9th from 3:00 PM to 8:00 PM, and the funeral service will take place on October 10th at 12:00 PM with burial immediately following in Spring Hill Cemetery.
