Mr. James L. Massey's Obituary
James L. “Jim” Massey, age 91 of Nashville, TN passed away December 15, 2013. Mr. Massey was born July 7, 1922 in Nashville, TN to William Oliver and Mettie Ballard Massey.
Mr. Massey served in the U.S. Navy from 1942-1946 and the U.S. Air Force from 1947-1964, through World War II, the Korean War and the Vietnam War. Following his military career, he retired to Nashville in 1964. He worked as a civilian at Sewart Air Force Base until its deactivation. He later studied to become a master electrician, eventually opening his own business, J & M Electric Company. He enjoyed traveling and the many friends he made in the Music City Airstream Unit.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, John, Howard and William O., Jr.
He is survived by his wife, Mary M. Decker Massey; son, Stephen L. Massey; grandson, Stephen James (Gayle) Massey; great-granddaughters, Mikayla and Hope Massey; nephew, Harold Halliburton; nieces, Melissa Massey, Sharon Lorenson and Deanna Middaugh.
A celebration of Mr. Massey’s life will be conducted at 2 P.M., Wednesday, December 18, 2013 from the Chapel of Spring Hill Funeral Home with Rev. Jack Barron and Rev. Harold Halliburton officiating. Interment with military honors will follow in Spring Hill Cemetery.
George Stone, Carl Bateman, Wayne and Shane Halliburton, Al Foster, Sam Massey and the past and present members of the Nashville Music City Airstream Unit will serve as honorary pallbearers.
The family will receive friends from 4 PM until 8 PM on Tuesday and 12 PM until 1:45 PM on Wednesday, prior to the service at Spring Hill Funeral Home.
