James Leon McCaskill Sr.'s Obituary
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Mr. James Leon McCaskill, Sr. on September 7th, 2023, in Nashville, Tennessee.
James was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend. He was born on April 23rd, 1937, in Mooresville, North Carolina, to James Boyd McCaskill and Foy Aline Blanton McCaskill. He was affectionately known as “Mr. Fix-It-All” as he was one heck of a mechanic. He had an incredible shot while bird hunting, and a fantastic cast as a deep-sea fisherman. He never met a stranger and could engage in meaningful conversations with nearly anyone. He was very proud of being in the Navy, serving as a sharpshooter and even earning the Navy Commendation Medal for his heroism as a Helicopter Rescue Crewman. He was a fan of NASCAR, the Tennessee Titans, and the North Carolina Tar Heels. His sweet and loving spirit will be missed by everyone who knew and loved him.
In addition to his parents, James is preceded in death by his son-in-law William “Billy” E. Cothran. He is survived by his beloved wife of 65 years, Bettie Holt McCaskill; daughters Tammy Cothran and Donna Tolleson; son James “Jim” McCaskill, Jr. (Lisa); grandchildren Shawn (Kim), Tiffany, Jamey, Jordan (Andrea), and Cameron; sister Kathy "Kat" (Daniel "Gary") McCaskill McRae; ten great-grandchildren; a nephew Branson Boyd (Michelle) McRea; a niece Stephanie McRea (Zachary) Greenfield; and two great-nieces.
The family cordially invites guests and relatives for a time of visitation on Friday, September 15th, 2023, from twelve o’clock in the afternoon until two o’clock in the afternoon, with a celebration of life service and a reception to follow at Spring Hill Funeral Home, 5110 Gallatin Road, Nashville, TN 37216.
