James Marion Sharp's Obituary
James M. Sharp, 93, of Goodlettsville, TN, formerly of Nashville, passed away on May 27, 2022 under the care of Adoration Hospice while as a patient at The Waters nursing home in Springfield, TN.
Jim was born on November 14, 1928 in Nashville, TN. The eighth of ten children born to Jesse Lee and Nelle Josephine (McHugh) Sharp all of whom preceded him in death.
Survived by two children: Son, James (Jay) Marion Sharp, Jr. and daughter, Janet Sue Sharp.
Jim attended Holy Name Catholic School and was a Father Ryan High School graduate. Jim entered the Army in 1952 and served during the Korean War. He was a member of 10th Airborne Rangers Company special forces and a Black Beret. Berets are the established head gear of elite troops and those in the 10th and 11th Companies were the first USA Army soldiers to be issued berets of any color. A recipient of the Occupation Medal (Japan), United Nations Service Medal, Korean Service Medal with one bronze service star, the Combat Infantry Badge and Parachute Badge.
Jim retired from the Commercial Engraving Company as a photo engraving lithographer; pursued golf and fishing in his retirement and was an avid sports fan. He especially loved watching Major League Baseball, his beloved NY Yankees and the PGA golf tour. Spring Training games were annually attended with his daughter Janet in Tampa, FL. A most memorable time was attending the 2006 Masters in Augusta, GA with his daughter and son.
Jim was most happy and proud in the company of his family. Birthdays, reunions, marriages and holiday gatherings were always a highlight and never to be missed. During retirement, there wasn't a week that went by that he couldn't be found in the company of his brothers Tom and Jack wagering nickels and dimes on golf scrambles. If that wasn't enough, there was always time for fishing at Kentucky lake or para-mutual wagering at the nearby Kentucky Downs.
Funeral Pallbearers: Nephews John Coode, Pat Coode, Phillip Coode, William C. Luster, Michael Luster, Mark Sharp, Joseph Sharp and Andrew Sharp.
The family offers a special thanks to the staff of Adoration In Home Care and Hospice, The Veterans Affairs Geriatric Clinic at the Tennessee Valley Healthcare System Nashville Campus, NHC and The Waters skilled nursing facilities and the Tri-Star Medical Group. Additionally, the family wishes to express its appreciation for the compassionate care and assistance provided to him by his part-time and live-in caregivers during the past year.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Disabled American Veterans (DAV.org), 110 9th Avenue South, Rm. C166B, Nashville, TN 37203.
The family will receive relatives and friends on Thursday, June 2 from 11:00 am until the time of the funeral mass at 1:00 pm at St Joseph Catholic Church, 1225 Gallatin Pike South in Madison.
Burial will immediately follow the funeral mass at Calvary Cemetery, in the Veterans Memorial Garden section, 1001 Lebanon Road in Nashville, TN.
