Mr. James Robert Shoemaker's Obituary
James Robert Shoemaker, age 82 of Madison, passed away on January 2, 2016. He was born in Millersville, TN on December 19, 1933. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather and he will be missed by many.
Mr. Shoemaker was retired after nearly 50 years working for the Tennessee Department of Transportation. He was also a 32nd Degree Scottish Rite Mason, and Past Master of Old Hickory Lodge # 598 in 1979. Mr. Shoemaker was also the Lodge’s Historian for many years.
James was a jokester who possessed a dry wit. He was a great storyteller and enjoyed doing crossword puzzles. His family agrees that he was a wonderful man.
Mr. Shoemaker was married to Betty Lou Shoemaker for 55 years, until her death in 2014. He is survived by his sons, Jay (Laurie) Shoemaker and Wade Shoemaker; and grandchildren, Misty Sutton, Alexandria Shoemaker, and Samantha Shoemaker; as well as beloved friend and caregiver, Gwen Osborne.
Mr. Shoemaker’s family will receive visitors on Wednesday, January 6, 2016 from 4pm until 8pm. Members of the Masonic Lodge will perform a ceremony at 7:00pm during Wednesday’s visitation. Additional visitation will take place on Thursday, January 7, 2016, from 9am until 11am. Reverend L.C. Troutt and Reverend Jay Voorhees will preside over a Funeral Ceremony to honor Mr. Shoemaker immediately following Thursday’s visitation at 11:00am. Entombment will take place in the Serenity Chapel Mausoleum at Historic Spring Hill Cemetery, with family and friends serving as Pallbearers.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Make a Difference Fund of the City Road Chapel United Methodist Church, 701 Gallatin Road,South, Madison, Tennessee 37115.
