James Lee Taylor, 77, of Hendersonville, Tennessee, passed away on November 14th, 2023.
James was born in Salisbury, Maryland, on February 28th, 1946, and grew up on Chincoteague Island, VA. He was the son of the late George S. and Susie F. (Gault) Taylor. He was a member of the LDS Whitehouse Ward in Madison, TN. He joined the U.S. Marine Corp during Vietnam and served May 1966 through April 1969 when he was honorably discharged.
James retired after 34 years of law enforcement service as Special Agent in Charge of the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation, where he headed the Criminal Investigation Division, Drug Enforcement Division, Medicaid Fraud Control Unit and the Governor’s Task Force on Marijuana Eradication. During his 34-year career, he received many awards on his outstanding efforts from several Governors.
James is survived by his loving wife of 19 years, Janice (Leyhew) Taylor, two daughters Melinda Leigh Elliott and her husband Jason of Hendersonville, TN, and Allison Ann Taylor of Nashville, TN; one stepdaughter Belinda (Bo) Barney of Tierra Verse, FL; two grandchildren Kaitlynn Elliott and Brayden Elliott; three grand dogs; two nephews; and several cousins. He was preceded in death by his brother George William Taylor and nephew George William Taylor, Jr.
The family cordially invites friends and relatives for a time of visitation on Saturday, November 18th, 2023, from three o'clock in the afternoon until six o'clock in the evening, and on Sunday, November 19th, 2023, from eleven o'clock in the morning until the funeral service at twelve o'clock in the afternoon, with entombment to follow at Spring Hill Funeral Home and Cemetery, 5110 Gallatin Road, Nashville, TN 37216.
Flowers accepted, or donations may be made to the American Heart Association or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
Active pallbearers are Tom Dutton, Jimmy Overton, Scott Ferguson, Jason Elliott, Brayden Elliott, and Todd Thompson. Honorary pallbearers are Richard Wright, Rick Taylor, Donnie Burch, and Mike McGee.
Final arrangements for Mr. Taylor are entrusted to Spring Hill Funeral Home and Cemetery, "Where Nashville Comes to Remember."
