Young, Sr. James Clayton
Birth January 30, 1927. Death November 15, 2018. Age 91. Beloved husband and best friend of Sandra Harvey Young married 61 years. Preceded in death by parents, John Marvin Young, Sr. and Callie Downing Young, brother and sister-in-law John M. Young Jr. (Virginia Golightly Young). Survived by wife, sons, J. Clayton Young, Jr. of Nashville, Maj. David W. Young, Sr. (Debbie Reagan Young) of Monterey, TN, grandchildren David Wade Young, Jr. and Audrey Elizabeth Young, nephew John M. Young III (Marlene) and niece Janis Young Gunselman (Stan). Mr. Young served in Germany in WWII, was a resident of Rutherford County, TN until married in 1957. Studied at the Art Institute of Pittsburgh and Harris Advertising Art School. Worked for the Newspaper Printing Corp. (now the Tennessean) for 26 years as staff artist and 15 years as Art Director. Enjoyed the talents of many fine artists and friends. Designed patches for the Boy Scouts of America during years sons were in scouting. He received commendations for work- Long Rifle, Vigil member, Order of the Arrow and a Founder’s award. Avid reader of history, found much joy in designing cartoons celebrating friends and family events. Retirement included stone work and enclosures at home and multiple artistic drawings. Mr. Young worshiped with the Christian Family at Jackson Park Church of Christ. Visitation will be held on Sunday, November 18, 2018 from 4-8pm at Spring Hill Funeral Home, 5110 Gallatin Rd. Nashville, TN. Funeral services will be conducted by Bro. Jim Olive and Kent Hall, at 2pm in the Chapel at Spring Hill Funeral Home on Monday, November 19, 2018 with visitation 1 hour prior to service time. Burial with military honors will follow at Historic Spring Hill Cemetery.
