Ms. Jane Elwood Howell Ralls' Obituary
Jane Elwood Howell Ralls, age 91 of Hendersonville. She was born June 14, 1923 in Nashville and died November 18, 2014.
She was preceded in death by parents James Head Howell and Corinne Kyle Howell; husband, Warner Tud Ralls.
Survived by brother James Justin Howell (Mary Ruth), nieces and nephew Lynn Howell King, Stephen Howell, Leigh Howell Dyer, and Donna Ralls Hiller.
Jane was born in Nashville, Tennessee on June 14, 1923. Her family made their home in East Nashville where she attended Jere Baxter Elementary school and graduated from Isaac Litton High School. In 1945 she married her high school sweetheart, Tud Ralls, on his return from serving in the Air Force and as a Prisoner of War in World War II. They made their home briefly in Nashville before moving in 1962 to Hendersonville where they made their permanent home.
She worked for Associates Finance and for Dr. John Payne, dental office. She also worked for Monument Records in Hendersonville.
She was chairwoman of the young ladies’ division of the Nashville Women’s club and was a member of the Belmont Mansion Association.
Jane and her husband were benevolent givers and through the years gave strong support to Belmont College and to Davidson Academy, where she served on the board for 14 years. They also were passionate about their support for the Humane Society and together they funded and promoted the first Humane Society building in Sumner County.
She was a longtime member of Hendersonville First Baptist Church. In 1970 she and her husband Tud were founding members of Bluegrass Baptist Church in Hendersonville, a mission of First Baptist Church.
Her family will see friends from 1:00pm until her celebration of life service at 2:30pm on Friday, November 21, at Springhill Funeral Home with Reverend Richard Gaia officiating.
Pallbearers will include Stephen Howell, Ben Howell, James Howell, John Dyer, Jordan Dyer, Dr. Sidney King, Dr. Matthew King, Timothy King, and Andrew King.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The First Baptist Church of Hendersonville or the Sumner County Humane Society.
