Mrs. Janis Myers Parker's Obituary
Janis Myers Parker, 72, of Nashville, Tennessee, passed away on Thursday, August 3, 2023 after a long, 19 year illness. Born June 13, 1951, in Nashville, she was the daughter of the late Walter Clarence Myers and Martha Louise Davis Myers.
Jan grew up in the Inglewood neighborhood of East Nashville. She was a proud graduate of Issac Litton High School, class of 1969. She then attended and graduated from Belmont University in Nashville.
After graduating from Belmont, Jan began working for South Central Bell. She was a Communications Consultant, and later became an Assistant Manager with BellSouth. She retired in 1997 to spend more time with her family.
Jan was an active member of First Presbyterian Church of Nashville. She participated in many different ministries of the church, including bible studies and teaching Sunday School. Her strong faith in the Lord was evident to all who knew her.
Jan loved art. She loved visiting art museums, including visits to the Frist Art Museum in Nashville and several visits to the National Gallery of Art in Washington DC. Later in her life, she attended art classes and painted her own works of art.
Jan enjoyed traveling and spending time with her family. She enjoyed annual trips to both Gatlinburg & Florida. She also had fond memories of visiting New Orleans and Alaska during her life.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son Edison Ford Parker III; and brother James Joseph Myers, Sr.
She is survived by her husband of 46 years Edison Ford Parker, Jr.; son Daniel Davis Parker and his wife Shannon; grandchildren Daniel Ford Parker, Samuel Finn Parker, and Rya Marie Parker; and sister Mary Myers Meikrantz.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, August 9, from 10:00am until 12:00pm at Spring Hill Funeral Home in Nashville. A Celebration of her life will take place at 12:00pm noon at the Spring Hill Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Sandra Randleman officiating. Burial will follow in the Historic Spring Hill Cemetery.
