Jerry Lofton Cathey Sr.'s Obituary
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, Jerry Lofton Cathey, Sr. on April 30th, 2023. He was 82 years old. Jerry was a proud Air Force veteran who served his country with honor and distinction.
Jerry had a passion for Vanderbilt football that was unmatched. He loved attending games, wearing his black and gold, and cheering on his beloved Commodores. He was also an avid golfer and spent many hours on the course perfecting his swing.
Despite his love for sports, his family always came first. He was married to his childhood sweetheart, Eva Belle, for 58 years. They were a true testament to what it means to love and support each other through thick and thin. Jerry was a dedicated father, grandfather, and great-grandfather who loved spending time with his family and making memories.
Jerry had a great sense of humor and was known for his infectious laugh. He could always make those around him smile, even during the toughest of times. He was also dedicated to his work and took pride in everything he did. His commitment to excellence was admired by all who knew him.
Jerry was a man of faith and a member of Grace Place in Nashville. He loved the Lord and was grateful for the blessings in his life. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
Jerry is preceded in death by his parents Robert Persion Cathey and Lucille Barber Phillips. He is survived by his wife Eva Belle Cathey; children Denise Michelle Cathey and Jerry Lofton Cathey Jr. (Gena); grandchildren Shaun Kistner (Ashlee), Michael Cathey, Brittany Cathey, and Jessica Kistner; great-grandchildren Kylie, Kaleb, Layla, Hanna, and Matthew; several nieces and nephews; and a host of extended family and dear friends.
The family will receive guests and relatives for a time of visitation on Wednesday, May 3rd, 2023 from four o'clock in the afternoon until seven o'clock in the evening, and on Thursday May 4th, 2023 from nine o'clock in the morning until ten o'clock in the morning, with a chapel service to follow at ten o'clock in the morning, and burial to follow at Spring Hill Funeral Home and Cemetery, 5110 Gallatin Road, Nashville, TN 37216.
