Mr. Jerry Ward Knight's Obituary
Jerry Ward Knight, age 74 of Madison, passed away on August 25, 2015. Jerry was born in Madison, Tennessee on February 6, 1941 to the late Raymon and Thelma Knight. Jerry was one of eight children in a large family, and the siblings were very close. He will be remembered as a loving son, brother, uncle, and cherished friend.
Jerry was proud to serve in the United State Coast Guard Reserve for over 30 years. He was a hard worker and dedicated to his education. While working at DuPont and fulfilling his Coast Guard requirements, Jerry also attended college at night for many years in order to complete his degree in Engineering.
Jerry and his longtime friend, Jeannine, were very active in the Jaycees and Jaycettes. He was also a Mason and was very active in the community. For many years, Jerry owned a houseboat at Holmes Creek Boat Dock on Center Creek Lake, and he made many friends there.
Jerry was a man of few words, but was truly kind and thoughtful. He always made sure everyone was taken care of and checked in regularly. He and his siblings also played Scrabble avidly, even in the last weeks of his life.
In addition to his parents, Jerry was preceded in death by his sisters, Jeannette Sparkman and Dorothy Sisco; half-brother, Samuel Burton Lane, Jr.; and his beloved friend of over 50 years, Rose Jeannine Luck.
Jerry is survived by his sisters, Frances Draper, Faye White (Robert), and Sherrie Knight (Ray Penticost); brother, Marlin Knight (Liza Hoyt); special friends, Bobby and Betty Luck; as well as many nieces, nephews, and extended family, all of whom he loved dearly.
Jerry’s family will gather for graveside services on Saturday, August 29, 2015 at 10:00am. Interment will take place in Historic Spring Hill Cemetery.
