Mr. Jesse D. Betty's Obituary
Jesse Douglas Betty, Jr. age 83 passed away on May 24, 2018 at Alive Hospice in Nashville, TN.
The oldest son of Jesse Douglas Betty, Sr. and Lottie Hill Betty. Raised in West Nashville on
Kentucky Ave, a graduate of Cohn High School before joining the Navy to serve as a Gunner in
the Korean War. Doug met his lovely bride, Shirley Irene Kemp, on a blind date at the original
Chicken Shack, claiming the reason he fell for her was because she was sassy enough to ask for
extra hot sauce. This began a 56-year marriage but did not ever settle the ongoing debate
regarding the superiority of Cohn High School vs. North High School. Doug worked in sales and
transportation until retiring and focusing his interests on individual investment properties in
the Nashville area. He shared his love for the real estate business with his loving and devoted
son, Douglas Edward as well as the many friends and tenants he met and served through the
years. A life-long fan of football and hockey he was a die-hard Titan and Predator supporter. He
loved fishing cold beer, cooking, telling jokes, dogs, and his family. He loved to spend time with
his son in their business, take care of his family and make those around him feel as if he had
been a lifelong friend. He never met a stranger and had the warmest heart towards those he
felt needed a helping hand. Doug will be remembered for his quick wit, good natured smile, and
hearty laugh. He passed his deep passion and commitment of dogs and animals to his daughter,
who he never denied the “look what followed me home” story. He is preceded in death by his
parents and siblings, Barbara Ann Betty Waggoner and Kenneth Edward Betty. He is survived by
his wife Shirley, his son, Douglas Edward Betty, daughters, Laura Recher Betty and Kimberly Ann
Betty, grandchildren Jesse, Erin and 2 great grandchildren and his loving little dogs, Daisy, Lilly,
and Abby. Private graveside services will be held Friday at Springhill Cemetery.
