Mrs. Jo Nelda Sparkman's Obituary
Heaven gained an angel with a heart of gold on Friday, March 9, 2018 when Jo Nelda Sparkman, age 90, passed away at her home at Grace Manor Assisted Living. Jo was born on April 26, 1927 in Sparta , TN to Byrd and Molly Lamb. Jo was preceded in death by her parents and her two older brothers, Byrd Jr. and William(Bill).
Jo met the love of her life, Horace Sparkman, in high school and they were married in 1946 when he returned from serving in World War II. They were married for fifty-four years until his death in December 2000.
Mrs. Sparkman was a Christian and looked forward to her heavenly home. She was an active member of Grace Baptist Church for over 60 years. She enjoyed participating in her Sunday School class activities as well as Saints Alive.
Jo worked at Genesco for forty-six years in various positions before retiring in 1996. In her retirement she was active at Fifty Forward and took several trips with her many friends.
Mrs. Sparkman is survived by her son, Barry, and his wife Sharon, three grandchildren, Craig Sparkman, Carly Tassin and her husband Jacques (J.D.) and their children Jacob and Macie, and Caitlyn Sparkman. All reside in Midland, TX.
A Celebration of Life will be held at noon on Tuesday, March 13 at Spring Hill Funeral Home with Dr. Roger Freeman officiating. Internment to follow at Spring Hill Cemetery. Visitation with family and friends will be held on Monday, March 12, from 4-8 p.m. and again at 11 a.m. on Tuesday until the time of service at Spring Hill Funeral Home. The family wishes to thank the staff of Grace Manor Assisted Living for the loving care that Jo received as a resident there. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Grace Manor Assisted Living or Grace Baptist Church on Old Hickory Blvd.
