Joe Corley's Obituary
CORLEY, Joe Hubert of Nashville passed away on October 11, 2011. Born on May 28, 1928 in Murfreesboro, TN. He married his 5th grade elementary school sweetheart, Patty Jean McIlvain on May 30, 1948. He graduated from Issac Litton High School in 1946. Preceded in death by his parents Cecil Corley, Sr, and Clarice Patton, and brother Cecil Corley, Jr. and sister Nancy Lankes. He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years Pat, daughters Donna Corley of Maryville, TN., Karen (Phil) Travis, Jan Corley Walker (Kirk Camplin) Son Russ (Jackie) Corley, grandchildren Barbara Kay Corley, Joel Russell Corley, Jonathan Michael Corley, Corley Allison (Stephen) Suttles, Brittany Cristin (Jeff) Webb, Philip Corley Travis, Jason Corley Walker, Blair Walker (Chase) Campbell, great grandchildren Bryson Corn and Caden Campbell. He was a brilliant, hard working businessman who began his working career at the age of 9 working at Tiny Garrett's Drugstore in Madison. He began selling cars with his father and sold his first car at the age of 16. He formed Joe Corley Motors in 1951 at the age of 23 and operated a very successful used car dealership for 44 years retiring in 1995. All along the way he bought and sold many parcels of real estate along Gallatin Road from East Nashville to Hendersonville. At the age of 34 he became an elder at the Madison Church of Christ, where he served for 38 years. He and Pat were members at the West Broward Church of Christ in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Funeral services will be conducted Friday October 14, 2011 at 10AM at the Goodlettsville Church of Christ with Dr. Russ Corley officiating. Visitation with the family will be Thursday from 4 til 7PM at the Goodlettsville Church of Christ and 1 hour prior to the service at 10AM. Grandchildren will serve as Pallbearers. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Encouragement Ministries, P.O. Box 2082, Brentwood, TN. 37024-2082. Interment will follow in the historic Spring Hill Cemetery.
