Joe Powell's Obituary
Independence, KY - Joseph B Powell passed away peacefully on April 26, 2024, at age 61 after a brave and hard-fought battle and surrounded in love by his family. He was a loving father, husband, brother, and dear friend who enjoyed making his friends and family laugh.
Joe was born on April 16, 1963, in Cincinnati, son of Janet (Conlin) and Joseph W Powell. He joined sister Judith and the family was joined shortly after by brother Jason. The family started in Cincinnati and throughout Joe’s childhood moved to Connecticut, Minnesota, and Illinois before returning to Cincinnati for High School and the birth of sister Jennifer.
Joe graduated from Ohio University with dual degrees in Telecommunications and Telecommunications Systems Management and embarked on a long and satisfying career in IT and telecommunications systems management with Dinsmore & Shohl LLP and Xanodyne Pharmaceutical. Most recently, he had transitioned to the procurement management side with 84.51°. He formed long lasting relationships with colleagues along the way and truly enjoyed working alongside them.
He was married and deeply in love with his wife Angie for 22 years. Their daughter Lauren was truly the apple of his eye. The love, joy, and pride he felt in her was evident every single day, they had a very special connection. Joe was an avid joker, specializing most recently in dad-jokes with Lauren as his very patient audience and co-collaborator. As a family, some of their most favorite times together were at the beach in Siesta Key, Florida, a destination they visited as often as they could continuing a tradition from Joe’s childhood. He was an animal lover throughout his life and was strongly connected to the lucky dogs and cats who got to live with him.
In addition to time with his family, Joe took great pleasure in his home and garden, not only the physical space but especially his neighbors and friends. He felt so lucky to know the deep satisfaction of forming lasting and loving friendships. He enjoyed nothing more than making the people around him smile and laugh, and they loved him for it.
He loved everything about cars, sleeping with small toy cars under his pillow as a very young child and becoming an avid race fan as an adult. He loved to play guitar, making up silly songs and videos. He also enjoyed playing Texas Hold-Em and happily provided strategy advice.
Preceded in death by his father Joseph W, Father In Law Donald Tiemeier, and brother Jason, Joe is survived by wife Angie (Tiemeier), daughter Lauren, mother Janet, sisters Judith and Jennifer (Matt Pugliese), Mother-in-Law Linda Tiemeier, Brother in laws Todd (Angela) Tiemeier and Brian (Rachel) Tiemeier, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was beloved by his family and will be greatly missed.
Joe's Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, May 17, 2024, at the clubhouse at Pride Park, 5614 Taylor Mill Road in Taylor Mill, Kentucky. Everyone is invited to visit from 4:00 pm until 8:00 pm with a time for sharing cherished stories and beloved memories from 6:00 pm until 7:00 pm.
Memorial gifts in Joe's name may be made to the American Heart Association or Donate Life.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Spring Hill Funeral Home and Cemetery, 5110 Gallatin Road in Nashville.
