Joe W. Forrester's Obituary
FORRESTER, Joe Webb Age 91 passed away on Sunday, January 16th. He was born to the late Stephen Allen and Emmy Lee Forrester of Vernon, TN. He is also preceded in death by his first wife, Bertha Mae, and his second wife, Edna Louise; son, William Stanford; brothers, Clyde, Clayton, and Howard Forrester. He is survived by his son, Joe Stephen; daughter, Luanna Lee (Harold) Moore, of FL; and stepdaughters, Sandra (Charles) Wood and Connie Duffy; five grandchildren; and four great grandchildren. Mr. Forrester moved to Nashville in 1935 where he embarked on a show business career with his brother, Howard. He appeared with Harold Goodman on WSM’s Grand Ole Opry as well as on KVOO in Tulsa, OK. He was also a radio performer in Tuscola, IL. He served during WWII as a member of the 3rd Army where he participated in the D-Day landing on Utah Beach and saw combat in France and in the Hertgen Forest campaigns. In 1945 he resumed his show business career working with such country music artists as Bill Monroe, Gene Autry, Art Davis, and Georgia Slim Rutland's Texas Roundup on KRLD in Dallas, TX. He returned to Nashville in 1949 where he served 26 years as a letter carrier at East Station. He retired in 1978. He was a lifetime member of the Nashville Association of Musicians Local #257 and he was a member of the Masonic Lodge. Brethren of the Jerre Baxter-Edgefield Masonic Lodge will hold a ceremony Monday, January 17th at 7PM.
