John Thomas Benson, III
Age 90, born November 6, 1927, passed away on October 28, 2018.
John is preceded in death by his parents, Jimmie Lou (Root) Benson and John T. Benson, Jr, and his brother, Robert (Peggy) Benson and son-in law, David Vincent.
John is survived by his loving wife, Jane Cartwright Benson and his children, Ann Benson Vincent, John Benson, IV (Pam), Joe Benson (Kathy) and Tricia Benson (Amy), 8 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. John is also survived by his three sisters, Eva Rogers, Carolyn Newton, and Laura Davis.
John had a successful career in the family’s printing company, and later joined his father, John and brother, Bob in 1969, first as vice president and later as president, of John T. Benson Publishing Company. Having played a key role in the gospel music industry, John was inducted into the Gospel Music Hall of Fame in 2006.
John was a long-time member of Hendersonville First United Methodist Church and a teacher in the Follower’s Sunday School Class.
John loved boating, photography and traveling.
Married for 70 years to Jane, John most of all loved his family and his many dear friends.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to a charity of your choice in John’s memory.
Visitation will be held from 1:30 to 3:00 on November 2, 2018 followed by a Life Celebration and Graveside service at 3:00 at Spring Hill Funeral Home and Cemetery, 5110 Gallatin Pike, Nashville, TN 37216.
