Mr. John D. "Pops" Brewington, Jr.'s Obituary
John Dudley “Pops” Brewington, Jr., of Nashville passed away on August 8, 2015. He was born in Davidson County, Tennessee on May 4, 1958 to John and Wilma Brewington. Pops was a loving husband, father, uncle, brother, and grandfather. He was a wonderful co-worker and will be missed by many.
His family recalls that Pops was a good man who loved his family. “When he grabbed you up in a hug, you knew he meant it,” remembers his son, Ricky. Pops was a creative and talented man who loved to envision and work on new projects. He had recently begun working with his sons as foreman for a new home remodeling business, a career that he was well-suited for.
Pops was set in his ways, but had room in his life for love and humor. “He was the love of my life,” remembers Sheryl, the mother of his children. “I loved his laugh – that silly little giggle of his." Pops also loved watching NASCAR driver, Tony Stewart and UT football.
Pops was a beloved member of the grounds crew at Spring Hill Funeral Home and Cemetery for several years as well. The entire staff feels his loss and will miss him greatly.
Pops was preceded in death by his father, John Dudley Brewington, Sr.; step-brothers, Tony Martin and Michael Lever; uncles, Bill and Jimmy; and nephew, Darryl Harshaw.
He is survived by his mother, Wilma Wilson; the mothers of his children, Sheryl Brewington and Kathy Little; children, Jonathan Scott Brewington (Jennifer), Richard Brewington, Jana Witcher, Elizabeth Brewington, Michael Brewington, Shelby Denise Lynch, and step-daughter, Stephanie Stevens; sister, Tina Pack (Martin); brother, Stanley Minick; step-sisters, Donna and Sheila Lever; step-brother, Ricky; ten grandchildren; loyal lifetime friend, Jeff “Kenmore” Kendall; his best friend, Debbie Rediker; as well as many extended family members and friends, all of whom he loved dearly.
The family will receive friends and visitors on Thursday, August 13, 2015, from 12pm until 7pm at Spring Hill Funeral Home. A Celebration of Life Memorial Service to honor Pops will take place the same evening, at 7:00pm from the Chapel of Spring Hill Funeral Home.
