John Alton Elder, Jr.
Navy Veteran, John Alton Elder, Jr., passed away at home surrounded by his family on December 11, 2017 at the age of 79, just one day before his 80th birthday. Preceded in death by his parents, John A. Elder, Sr. and Eunice Elizabeth Cantrell Elder; brother, Roger Elder; and sister, Mary Anne Suell.
Survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Mary Theresa Elder; sons, Randy (Penny) Elder, Kenneth (Rhonda) Elder, and Chris (Valerie) Elder; four grandchildren, Matthew (Linda) Elder, Jennifer Elder, Chelsea (Caleb) Gray, and Taylor Elder; two great-grandchildren, Jonathan Alton Elder and Jason Theron Elder; and sisters, Gloria (Ernest) Ross, Linda Johnson, and Donna (David) Crowell.
A true outdoorsman, some of his favorite pastimes included golfing, fishing, and hunting. After serving in the United States Navy, he spent his career as an aircraft painter with Triumph Aerostructures - Vought Aircraft Division. Along with his love for his family, he will be remembered as a man of faith who enjoyed going to church. He will definitely be missed by those who knew and loved him at Greenville United Methodist Church in Joelton, TN.
A Celebration of Life service will be held on Friday, December 15, 2017 at 11 a.m. at Spring Hill Funeral Home with Rev. Brad Holliman and Dr. Diane DeWhitt officiating.
The family will receive friends for a time of remembrance and visitation at Spring Hill Funeral Home on Wednesday, December 13th and Thursday, December 14th from 4-8 p.m., and again one hour prior to the service on Friday.
Interment to follow the service on Friday at Spring Hill Cemetery. Family to serve as pallbearers.
