John Edward Felts Sr.'s Obituary
John Ed was a Renaissance man full of strength, talent, and love for his family. A striking athlete, he earned first place in the Mr. Tennessee bodybuilding competition. He played varsity football in high school. He enjoyed golf, tennis, and badminton, and was a strong runner, swimmer, and diver. He also found pleasure in fishing and archery.
In addition to his athletic interests, John Ed was an artist who could draw, paint, and woodwork. He was a keen photographer. He enjoyed listening to jazz, with preferences for the Dave Brubeck Quartet and Miles Davis.
He had careers as a pharmacist, as a long-haul truck driver, and as a computer technician. He was an alumnus of The University of Georgia and ITT Technical Institute. He was an avid fan of the Georgia Bulldogs.
He was a cat lover, and had a special bond with one cat, Toonces, who he doted on.
Above all, John Ed cherished his family. He married Shirley Ann Felts (Owen), on May 13, 1954. The two fell in love at first sight and went on to build a 72-year marriage. Together, they raised five children. He was a grandfather to four grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
John Ed is survived by the love of his life, Shirley; his sister, Penny Claunch; three daughters, Teresa Ann Freemon (Mike), Patricia Lynn Wells (Rocky), Donna Kay Tucker; one son, John Edward Felts, Jr.; grandchildren, Jay Tucker, Summer McClain (Trent), Adam Felts (Alissa), Laura Felts (Jason); great grandchildren, Cameron, Will, and Ruby.
