John Howard Fogarty's Obituary
John Howard Fogarty, age 88 of Madison, TN passed away on Tuesday, February 16, 2016. John was born on June 5, 1927 to Daniel Patrick Fogarty Sr. and Mary Louise Conroy Fogarty, deceased. Also deceased, a very special grandmother, Alice Forbes Conroy, a grandfather, Pete Conroy, and a younger brother, Robert Edward Fogarty.
John is survived by his wife of 65 years, Joyce Wray Fogarty, his daughters Linda (Mike) Fogarty, Janet (Adam) Bowman, and son Larry (Cyndie) Fogarty, grandchildren, Amber (Donna) Fogarty, Adam Pritchett, Marisa Woodall, Claire Fogarty, Hattie Fogarty, and Jo Jo Fogarty, great grandson, Lincoln Fogarty and great granddaughter, Paris Fogarty, brother Dan Fogarty, and special nephew Bobby Fogarty, along with many other loved nieces and nephews.
John attended Holy Name School through eighth grade. He graduated from Father Ryan High School in 1945 and was voted most handsome in his senior class. After graduation he enlisted in the Navy and happened to be in New York on V-J-Day, August 15, 1945. HE went on to serve twelve months on the Island of Guam as a Sea Bee. He was honorably discharged in August 1946.John then went to work at International Harvester where he met his future wife, Joyce, and recently celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary.
In 1950 he began work at the Newspaper Printing Corporation with his best friend from first grade, Thom Sharp, where he worked for a total of 40 years before he retired in 1990. He was a member of the Local #50 Graphic Communication s International Union. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus and the Golden Grads of Father Ryan.
Visitation will be Friday, February 19, 2016 from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. with a rosary service at 7 p.m. at Spring Hill Funeral Home and Cemetery. A Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, February 20, 2016 at 11 a.m. ,Father Breen will be officiating, with a visitation one hour prior at Saint Joseph’s Catholic Church. Burial will be after the Funeral Mass at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens at 660 Thompson Lane, Nashville, TN. Pallbearers will be Mark Fogarty, Bobby Fogarty, Adam Pritchett, Jo Jo Fogarty, Adam Bowman, and Mike Hull. The honorary pallbearers will be the Father Ryan Class of ’45 Golden Grads. In lieu of flowers, contributions to The American Heart Association would be appreciated.
