John Cole Word's Obituary
Spring Hill Funeral Home and Cemetery is saddened to announce the passing of John Cole Word on Jan. 28, 2023 in Nashville, Tennessee. We are honored to serve the family during this difficult time.
John Cole Word, 73, passed away peacefully, surrounded by loved ones, on Jan. 28 in Nashville following a brief illness.
He is survived by sons John Douglas (Brooke) Word, Christopher Cole Word; granddaughters Margot Ruth Word, Mirabelle Virginia Word and Josephine Edith Word; and sister Martha Jane Word all of Nashville. He was preceded in death by his parents, H.G. Word and Virginia Vanhooser Word of Nashville.
He graduated from Hillsboro High School in 1967. He earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Tennessee in 1971.
He co-founded Advantage, the Nashville business magazine, in 1978, and later served the State of Tennessee and multiple governors with the Department of Economic and Community Development before his retirement.
Visitation will be held Feb. 8 at Spring Hill Funeral Home from 10 am to 12 pm, with a chapel service to follow at 12 pm and burial thereafter at Spring Hill Cemetery.
