With deep sorrow we announce that Johnny Lee Jackson, our beloved father, brother, uncle, partner and friend passed away on Saturday, August 1, 2020. Johnny was born on January 1, 1954 the son of Thomas and Maggie (Walton) Denny both of whom preceded him in death.
Johnny is survived by his children, son Brian Jackson (Heather) and daughter Catina Duffer (Matt); grandchildren Tristen Jackson, Cassidy and Mason Duffer; siblings Carl Jackson (Betty) and Georgia Travis (Mark). He is also survived by his partner of 30 years Teresa Noles and children Sandra, Jimmy and Tim; grandchildren Destiny, Kaylie, Cameron and Collin.
Johnny lived in Madison, TN most of his life. He attended Madison High School where he graduated in 1972. He enjoyed watching old western shows like Gunsmoke, The Rifleman and The Andy Griffith Show. He would also wake up at 1:00 AM on Sunday Mornings to watch another favorite show called The Fugitive. Any one that knows Johnny Knows that his most favorite thing to do above all others is to fish. Not just any fishing but cat fishing to be specific. He loved to go jug fishing for catfish any chance he got. He would get a pep in his step when fishing was brought up. His favorite place to go fishing was Bumpus Mills Marina. Johnny was a Carpenter by trade which included framing houses, roofing and deck building. There was not much he couldn’t do or build, from playhouses and dog houses to carports and cat coops (inside joke). Johnny also enjoyed going to turkey shoots, he could spend all day trying to win a turkey or some bacon, the thrill of the kill so to speak. He liked music , however only the old country music like Goerge Jones, Johnny Cash and Conway Twitty, the kind of music you would find at a local bar in a juke box. He would always say “a good beer drinking song”. Johnny also had a thing for collecting items he would find, to him they were valuable and to others not always so much. Thrift store shopping for that one of a kind thingamajig or something on the side of the road. Rather it was an old gas can or toy or even a kitten, he would would want to pick it up and reuse it or give it away. Johnny was a quite man, he kept his feelings to himself most of the time. He had a rowdy past of bar hopping and late nights, he definitely did some living. Johnny burned the candle at both ends some would say. Some people may know Johnny by another name, John Henry, a name that many will recognize and probably have a story to tell as well. It is a name that has followed Johnny all his life. He was always the life of the party.
He loved his family and friends, he appreciated every one and everything dear to him. Johnny may not be here in the flesh with us now but rest assured he is in a happy place, fishing for catfish on heavens biggest river where the catfish always bite and the water never runs dry. He will be waiting, fishing don’t forget but waiting on us to join him in heaven when our time comes. He is watching over us right now in no pain, no grief and no worries because he is with his family members that have passed before him and with God sitting on the lake watching over us all. Johnny will be missed by many and thought of everyday, until we see you again.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, August 5, 2020 at Spring Hill Funeral Home and Cemetery at 5110 Gallatin Road, Nashville, TN 37216 from 4-8 PM and Thursday from 1-2 PM.
