Mr. Joseph Matthews Sr.'s Obituary
Joseph Burley Matthews, Sr., 80, passed away Tuesday, June 5, 2018 at Texoma Medical Center in Denison, Texas.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, June 12, 2018 at Spring Hill Funeral Home from 10-12pm with burial to follow.
Burial will be in Spring Hill Cemetery, Nashville, Tennessee.
Joseph was born Wednesday, April 13, 1938 in Nashville, Tennessee, the son of Joe Morris Matthews and Minnie Beatrice Swarner. He married the love of his life, Margie Meadows, on July 9, 1955 in Iuka, Mississippi. He was a carpenter and loved to build; retired from Austin College in 2000; loved to fish, travel and go to Choctow.
He is preceded in death by his parents; son Joe Matthews, Jr. and three brothers.
He is survived by his wife Margie Matthews of Denison; daughter Janet Putman and husband Dale and son Chip Matthews and wife Nina of Denison; 14 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren and one 5th generation granddaughter.
