Mr. Joseph M. McHenry Sr.'s Obituary
Joseph Mann McHenry (Buddy or Uncle Bud to almost everyone), went home to the Lord on February 9th. Born in Madison, Tennessee on December 14, 1922, Mr. McHenry attended Isaac Litton High School where he met Catherine, the love of his life, and then he graduated from Father Ryan High School. He also attended Vanderbilt University prior to following his father into the millinery business, owning the ladies hat department in Loveman’s department store and eventually McHenry Millinery Shop in downtown Nashville. Few ladies lived in Nashville in the 50s and 60s who didn’t own a McHenry hat. Mr. McHenry was the last surviving child of parents Joseph and Elizabeth Mann McHenry, and he is preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Catherine Dillard McHenry. He is survived by sons, Joseph (Dollena) McHenry and John (Debbie) McHenry, and by five grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He was a lifelong member of Saint Joseph Catholic Church. Mr. McHenry enjoyed woodworking, gardening, fishing and boating, reading and traveling, but he was never happier than when he was in the company of family and friends telling stories and laughing lots. The family expresses gratitude to the kind and loving staff of the Health Center at Richland Place, especially to Clarette Ridley, Kim Vaughn, and Gloria Wood and to very special friend, Ruby Fleming. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital. Visitation will be held from 3-5 PM on Sunday, February 12, 2017 at Spring Hill Funeral Home. A celebration of life service will be held on Monday, February 13, 2017 at 11:00 AM at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, 1225 Gallatin Pike Madison, TN.
