Joyce Elaine Wood's Obituary
Joyce Elaine Wood, 84, of Goodlettsville, Tennessee, passed away peacefully on May 18, 2026. She was born on February 18, 1942, to the late James and Mary Belle Patterson.
Joyce was a proud graduate of Litton High School and went on to pursue her calling in nursing at a Nashville nursing school. She devoted her life to caring for others, beginning her career at Baptist Hospital and St. Thomas Hospital before continuing her work in home health, where she touched many lives with her compassion and dedication.
A woman of deep and abiding faith, Joyce was a longtime member of New Bethel Missionary Baptist Church. She was also a devoted member of the Eastern Star, Old Hickory Chapter, joining as a young woman and cherishing the lifelong friendships and sisterhood she found there.
Joyce found great joy in traveling with her beloved husband, Reed Wood. Together, they shared many adventures, from spontaneous cross-country trips to memorable journeys to Mexico. She especially enjoyed people-watching at Panama City Beach and other lively destinations.
She deeply loved the Christmas season, particularly touring neighborhood light displays. Joyce was also known for her love of cooking and the joy she found in bringing family together for holiday meals and special gatherings.
Among her more unique pleasures was her fascination with fire trucks. Whenever sirens sounded nearby, Joyce would eagerly follow along—not to interfere, but simply to witness the excitement of the moment, captivated by the lights and activity.
Joyce will be remembered for her warm heart, her devotion to family, her spirited curiosity, and the meaningful connections she made throughout her life.
