Ms. Juanita Elizabeth Smith Carr's Obituary
Juanita Elizabeth Smith Carr passed away February, 26, 2016, at the age of 93, at Skyline Medical Center. Born December 12, 1922 on the family farm in the Fox Springs community of Clay County, TN. At age 5 she moved to Willow Grove TN where her family lived until they were forced to move because of the flooding of the land for Dale Hollow Lake. She graduated from Willow Grove High School at age 16, then entered Tennessee Polytechnic Institute (now Tennessee Tech) where she graduated at age 19 with honors and was named to Who’s Who in American Colleges and Universities. She was awarded a fellowship to continue her studies at the University of Tennessee where she received her Master’s degree in nutrition and hospital dietetics. She continued there on staff doing nutrition research until her husband returned from World War II. Then they moved to Cookeville for her husband to complete his studies at Tennessee Tech and she served on staff there. They moved to Nashville in 1953, and she lived in the area for the rest of her life. She was a member of Alpha Delta Pi sorority and of Dalewood United Methodist church. She was a devout Christian, and considered prayer to be the greatest privilege. Her deepest desire was to live a life pleasing to the Lord.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Audrain E. and Hettie B. Smith, her brother, Ret. Lt. Col. Arnold Smith, and her adored husband of 61 years, Albert O. Carr. She is survived by her only child, a daughter, Noroma Benz and her husband Jack.
Visitation will be on March 2 from 12pm until 2pm at Spring Hill Funeral Home, with services held at 2pm, officiated by Dr. Lynn Hill and Pastor Kyle Frohock.
